Shankly will not be impressed.

footballSaturday came and we started with a great candidate for goal of the season for Codie Smart who took the ball on the edge of the "D", spun and shot high into the far right top corner giving the keeper absolutely no chance. A moment to live long in the memory. Well done mate! A cracking goal.

From then on the footie weekend just went downhill as in the same game first the referee gave a ghost handball, then the keeper managed to get himself sent off for arguing about it one too many times and to cap it off they scored the penalty and a winner against the 10 remaining men.

A match that Impact FC were controlling and in no danger of losing suddenly turned on it's head. Match report here.

In grassroots football referees have so much more control over players than the petulant prima donnas that play in the top league. It was a poor decision to give the pen but once again the linesman stood like a lemon and he was standing three feet away from me - who could clearly see that it hit an arm that was trying to get out of the way. Ball to hand.

Why don't referees consult before making decisions that can ruin the game?

Sunday came and we started with a gift of a goal from the Arsenal keeper who made a complete hash of trying to punch the ball (was he trying to catch it?) and with Liverpool in complete control of the game, this was looking like a return to the team that finished last season looking so dangerous going forward.  The referee "should" have given a penalty for the foul on Gerrard however Liverpool should have been out of sight by half time - that's more to the point.

At the start of the second half the "defender" managed to gift the gooners an own goal and Liverpool promptly self imploded with the same player failing to mark Arshavin, who hardly had a kick all game, but landed the killer blow with a superbly struck shot.

Liverpool's season just goes from bad to worse and watching the post match analysis I thought poor old Ian St John was going to burst into tears as he sees his club sinking into mid table obscurity.

I think we are starting to get fed up with the "next match is a must win game" rhetoric that keeps being spouted out of Anfield. If this is the best that the first team can do then let some of the youngsters have a shot and bench some of the untouchables. At least we'd see some passion and commitment. This is turning into a non comedic groundhog day.

Sacking Benitez is not the answer.

1,350 of us turned up to watch Telford put Blyth Spartans to the sword last Tuesday and we'll be out in force for the FA cup first round proper against Lincoln. Expect a full house and the joint to be rocking and rolling come Saturday. Kids get in for a quid so it's sure to be a sell out.

A calamitous defeat against Fulham has left the Reds in a dire situation. But sacking the manager is not the path to go down.

Tomorrow night's game against Lyon is important for sure and not qualifying for the champions league is going to be hard to take for all Reds fans.

Have you all got such short memories?

Only five months ago Liverpool were pressing the mancs all the way and was only by divine intervention that they won the Premiership. The Reds scored more goals, conceded fewer goals and lost fewer games. How is that bad management?

Agreed that the current run of six defeats in seven games in all competitions is desperate form. But what has changed so much that even the level headed pundits like Whelan should start calling for the managers head?

Selling Alonso was not good. But the player wanted to go. Aquilani is a fantastic replacement and when he comes into action he'll silence the critics.

The problem is the injury list. What team wouldn't miss their best two players? Take Drogba and Anelka away from your Chelsea Line up and see how you fare then. Gerrard and Torres are badly missed and it's showing. The injury list for tomorrow nights game is horrendous and that is the problem.

Who would you get to replace Benitez anyway? With the American owners squabbling in the background and trying to sell off their shares and the new stadium shelved due to lack of funds can you see a Mourinho or a Hiddink wanting to come to Anfield anyway?

In any case Benitez has signed a new five year contract only months ago so you'll have to pay him up a cool 20 million if you want to get rid of him now and that's money that could be spent on a good player in January.

Sacking the manager is not the answer. All you past players start spouting off once the shit hits the fan and if you think Dalglish is the answer you are living in dreamland.

Just a few short months ago you were praising the fat waiter for coming so close to glory and now you are slating his transfer policy.

Many of the middle tier players can do much more and some buys have just not worked out but that happens at every club.

Veron anyone?

Remember this? Red nose on Veron:

"...On you go. I'm not fucking talking to you. He's a fucking great player. You are all fucking idiots."

Before selling him to Chelsea a few months later for half the purchase price.

Sacking Benitez is taking the club a massive step backwards so stop calling for his head - or you might get what you wished for.
